There are plenty of great places to eat in San Diego. That said, sometimes you’re in the mood to try something new, or want to find a hidden gem before it becomes popular. In that case, you should try some of these new La Jolla restaurants that have opened their doors here this year.

La Jolla Restaurants – Himitsu

A Japanese-style place to eat in San Diego named Himitsu has opened its doors off Torrey Pines Road. The head chef has been in San Diego for over fifteen years before striking out on his own. It’s a small-plates sort of restaurant, with emphasis on nigiri sushi. It’s open Monday through Friday, so sadly it isn’t good for a weekend date. That said, the dishes available can change depending on which fish are in, so it’s always a bit of an adventure to try out. It is worth noting that Himitsu’s a bit pricey—if you’d rather be full than impressed, look for a ramen shop. This is one of the best La Jolla restaurants.

Snooze A.M. Eatery

Hardly a new La Jolla restaurant, Snooze has opened up new doors in La Jolla Village. The chain has become a consistent pleaser in multiple states, and La Jolla is happy to have this brunch option around! The service is a constant selling point at the new La Jolla Snooze; no one here leaves unhappy! The staff is so energetic, they alone can wake you up! But if they can’t, the food will—pancakes, toast, eggs, coffee—they do the best about breakfast.

Officine Buona Forchetta

Another chain that’s spreading to grace more of California, Buona Forchetta has spread to Liberty Station. Not just another pizza place, Buona Forchetta stands out with little details that create Italian authenticity (some of the staff even speak Italian!). Pizza and pasta are the standards, but don’t neglect to save room for gelato. Craft beers and wines further help Buona Forchetta stand out against its competitors. Try out this awesome place to eat in San Diego!

Cooper’s Market and Café

Back closer to home, Cooper’s Market and Café, located off La Jolla Shores Drive and Avenida de la Playa, is now open for business! Going for a local, neighborhood vibe, the deli delivers simple fare that’ll serve as a yummy pick-me-up. If you’ve never gone to a local café that’s dedicated to quality, Cooper’s may transform what you though a croissant or bagel could be! They’re also quite allergen-friendly, so gluten-free and lactose-free diners needn’t be intimidated by the menu.
