If you are like most, you are probably ready to finally leave your house and enjoy a vacation getaway! La Jolla can do just that for you and so much more. While distance learning might be a pain, it allows you and your children to enjoy a vacation while still having access to their classes. Your children can attend school from the comfort of one of our vacation rentals, and then head out for an educational and fun day of vacation activities! Take a look at how you can enjoy an educational journey to La Jolla:
Salk Institute for Biological Studies
Older children will love a trip over to the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. This local nonprofit institute has been a mainstay in the community since 1960; it conducts ongoing research. Its founder, Jonas Salk, was the researcher who developed a vaccine for polio. This scientific facility is open for scheduled tours during your stay in the city. All prospective visitors will need to schedule a tour in advance by calling 858-453-4100. The Salk Institute for Biological Studies can be found at 10010 N Torrey Pines Rd.
Stuart Collection – University of California San Diego
Not all educational experiences can be had in the classroom. The University of California San Diego has a location here in La Jolla where you can find the Stuart Collection, a vast collection of public art obtained by the university. The majority of the artwork on display is unique sculptures found nowhere else. The next Van Gogh in your family may even find inspiration for their upcoming art project! Don’t pass up a chance to walk around this unique setting. The Stuart Collection can be seen at 9500 Gilman Dr.
Birch Aquarium
Another fascinating educational center located at the University of California San Diego is the Birch Aquarium. This local aquarium has been around for over a century, providing research for the bay. Some of the exhibits on display include the Hall of Fishes with over 60 tanks of unique Pacific fish. Young children will enjoy visiting the outdoor playground that uses renewable energy and natural forces to help power the exhibits. You can visit the Birch Aquarium found at 2300 Expedition Way at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
